- 1st attempt:
El lissitzky
Jan Tschihold
International Swiss Design
Paul Rand
Post Modernism.
- Seeing that I still had no Idea what I was trying to do, I dissed that attempt and came up with another 5 designers. Those designers being these:
Dadaism
DeStijl
Constructivism
Psychadelia
Punk
Unfortunately when I came down to starting my infographic I got stuck. I somewhat wasn't able to make a connecting through them. Typical me, I misunderstood the whole concept my lecturer was trying to make us do. I was trying to link each art movement and artist separately through just one thing - In this case I was aiming for typography. I literally sat down at my desk from 14:00 till 19:30 trying to figure out how I was going to link them. Obviously I wasn't getting anywhere because I misunderstood the task and was making my life a million times more complicated than it needed to be. Thanks to some skype calls and panic attacks with my classmates I finally understood what we had to do. It was extremely simple - I don't even know how I confused the whole concept in my mind.
I decided to change my timeline a little bit and it now goes like this:
- Art Nouveau - De Stijl - Constructivism - Psychadelia - Grunge
From these eras I then chose my artists
Art Nouveau - Alphonse Mucha
De Stijl - Theo Van Doesburg
Constructivism - El Lissitzky
Psychadelia - Victor Moscoso
Grunge - Art Chantry
To help me link my eras together I chose artists from today. I found links through their work and this, through my infographic, would help me explain their relationship with eachother.
Art Nouveau - Megan Lara
De Stijl - Alex Bigman
Constructivism - Joel Nilson
Psychadelia - Justin Guse
Grunge - David Carson
After having placed these artists and their work in my infographic I made sure I knew how I was going to link them. I did this by evaluating all these pieces I chose by all the different artists and checked what they had in common. I made a list and this was my result:
war
female figure
bright use of colour
geometric shapes
photography
photomontage
nature
contrast
grid
curves.
Having summed up those I felt that they were enough to make links between the works I chose. After marking them down next to the different art works I chose designs to put in the key, which will be showing what links with what and who links with who. When they were all chosen and set out I put them in a 'key' at the top of my infographic as a sort of introduction, letting the viewer in on what they will be looking at (See below).
