Stefan Sagmeister

Stefan Segmeister a designer, Austrian born (1962), who is now based in New York. Becoming a graphic designer wasn't his first choice in line of work and in fact  is one who failed at becoming a musician and a journalist. After moving to NYC in 1993, he opened up his own Graphic Design studio - Sagmeister Inc. He only opened his company with one more graphic designer and an intern, keeping it small and only producing work for music and other works he liked. Their first ever big project in fact was the design for the company business card. His company's productions have ranged from graphics, branding and packages. He is known for having  served influential people and companies of the time such as The Rolling Stones and HBO. Along his line of work he also wrote several books, influential to the world of arts and graphic design, examples being ''Things i have learned in my life so far” (2008) and ''Sagmeister, made you look'' (2001).

With the introduction of technology, Stefan Segmeister feels that people are exploring less, taking shortcuts and different approaches and distancing the artist within the designer. His works have been awarded for their iconic designs, and he has even been awarded Grammy's. One work which got such a merit was his music packaging art of David Bryne CD covers. His works range from business cards, posters to ads, making installations and album covers . When it comes to typography, Stefan Segmeister uses natural objects such as fruit, sticks and other organic materials. His typography is one of his most known trademarks.

Every 7 years, Segmeister is known to take a brake from all this chaos and work, not taking in any work. He spends this time focusing on personal work and refreshing himself as a designer.
